Privacy Policy

Follow Monitor (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is built privacy-first. It helps you track your own Instagram followers and following using the data export Instagram gives you. This policy explains what the app does — and, just as importantly, what it does not do — with your information.

The short version

• We have no servers and no user accounts.
• Your follower and following lists are stored only on your device.
• We never receive, collect, transmit, or sell your Instagram data.
• We never ask for your Instagram password and never log in to Instagram.
• Uninstalling the app (or removing an account inside it) permanently deletes that data.

Information you provide (stays on your device)

To use the app you import a data export .zip that you download from Instagram’s official “Download your information” tool. The app opens this file entirely on your device to read the usernames in your followers and following lists. That information, and the snapshots it builds over time, are saved in a local database on your device only. It is never uploaded anywhere and we have no way to access it.

Information we collect

We, the developer, do not collect any personal information ourselves. The app has no backend, no analytics SDK that profiles you, and no sign-up. The only data leaving your device is the data described under “Third-party services” below, which is handled by those providers — not by us.

Third-party services

The app uses a small number of third parties to run ads and process the optional purchase:

• Google AdMob — shows the in-app ads. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage information to serve and measure ads, in line with Google’s Privacy Policy and the AdMob data disclosures. In the EEA/UK we show a consent prompt, and on iOS we ask for permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency before any personalised ads. You can decline tracking or remove ads entirely (below).
• Google Play Billing / Apple App Store — process the optional “Remove ads” subscription. Payments are handled entirely by Google or Apple; we never see your payment details. See Google and Apple’s policies.

The “Remove ads” subscription

Buying the optional subscription disables all ads in the app. We store only a local flag indicating you are subscribed; the purchase itself is managed by the app store. You can restore it on a new device through the store, and cancel any time in your store account.

Permissions the app uses

• Internet — to load ads (and, on first run, the privacy consent form).
• File access — only when you pick the export .zip to import. The app reads the file you choose and nothing else.

The app does not request contacts, location, camera, microphone, or your photo library.

Data retention & deletion

Because everything is stored locally, you are in full control. Remove an account inside the app to delete its history, or uninstall the app to erase all of its data from your device. We hold nothing to delete on our side.

Children’s privacy

Follow Monitor is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Since the app keeps your data only on your device and we collect none of it ourselves, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting the data on your device. For data processed by our ad/payment partners, please use the controls and rights described in their privacy policies linked above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if we add optional cloud features in the future). When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above, and material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
